Acupuncture Defined

Acupuncture is an old Chinese medical method that uses needles to bring pain relief to the body. For over 2,000 years, medical professionals have used acupuncture to relieve patients of all kinds of chronic pain. The alternative type of therapy can give pain relief without the use of medication.

How Acupuncture Works

Small, thin needles are placed on specific parts of the body to draw pain away. These needles are placed just below the surface of the skin. The patient may feel a little tingle or slight burning in the area. The areas where the needles are placed are usually very dense with nerves. As these nerves forward signals throughout the body, the immune system kicks in, healing the body of aches and pains.

Conditions Acupuncture Helps

Acupuncture can improve symptoms from all kinds of conditions. Conditions that improve with acupuncture include:

  • Migraines and headaches
  • Neck and back pain
  • Fibromyalgia
  • Sciatica
  • Depression
  • Carpal Tunnel Syndrome

All of these conditions produce different types of pain throughout various parts of the body. Based on what the condition is and where the pain is coming from, the needles will be places on certain areas of the body to draw pain away from those parts.
